Freeform and 'Nightline' team up for Parkland shooting documentary

Freeform will look back at the effects of the brutal shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fl. with the documentary For Our Lives: Parkland.

The hour-long documentary will catch up with the heroic students who have been campaigning for gun control ever since a gunman opened fire in their school. For Our Livesis a joint production between ABC News' Nightlineand youth network Freeform.

Freeform explained the production partnership in a press release, writing that "The impactful messages conveyed in the special are integral to Freeform's identity, which continues to set itself apart from other content platforms by delivering stories that energize and empower young adults to celebrate the power of possibility and inclusivity."

On Feb. 14, a gunman walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and ultimately killed 17 people. Since then, a group of students – who were recently acknowledged by President Obama – took the lead in appealing to lawmakers and in the March for Our Lives on March 24.

Former Teen Vogueeditor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth will host the special.
