Apple may be experiencing a slump in demandfor its latest iPhone models, but it iswinning over one very interesting group of smartphone owners: Android users.
The lower-priced iPhone XR, the latest in Apple’s current generation of iPhones, has been wooing more Android users to make the switch than previous models. A new reportby Consumer Intelligence Research Partners found that users upgrading from an Android phone made up 16 percent of iPhone buyers in the month after the launch of the iPhone XR in October 2018.
After the launch of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in September 2017, 12 percent who upgraded to Apple’s phones were Android users. Following the launch of the iPhone X in November of that year, those purchasing phones powered by Google's mobile operating system had made up 11 percent of iPhone buyers.
The report also found that iPhone XR, with a starting price of $749, is the more popular of the latest iPhone models. The XR accounted for a total of 32 percent of Phone sales in the U.S. in that same 30-day period while sales for the pricier iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max made up a combined total of 35 percent of iPhone sales in the U.S.
SEE ALSO: Apple reveals the most popular iPhone apps of 2018Amid reports of stagnant iPhone sales and a decline in demand for Apple’s smartphone, the Cupertino-based company announced in November that they would no longerbe reporting sales numbers for its products. However, while still not giving specifics, Apple has said that the more affordable iPhone XR has been more popularthan the XS and XS Max.
While Apple contemplates the future generations of its smartphone, it will surely look at what the iPhone XR offers thats wooing former users of its fiercest competition.
