Facebook is working on a live audio feature for its Messenger Rooms, similar to the popular audio-based social app Clubhouse. We've known that since February, and the company confirmed it's doing something of the sort to TechCrunch.
Now, however, thanks to mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, we have a better idea on what this feature will actually look like in real life. Paluzzi dug up several screenshots of the upcoming feature in Facebook's Android app code, and has been sharing them over the past two weeks.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
According to the images Paluzzi has shared, Facebook will natively support video and audio rooms in Messenger Rooms. Audio rooms will come in two flavors – Live Audio or Private Audio – and anybody on Facebook will be able to tune into the former, he said.
Currently, Messenger Rooms support up to 50 people, but this may be expanded to accommodate larger groups.
The entire experience is pretty similar to Clubhouse, with speakers at the top, represented by larger icons, and listeners at the bottom.

A Facebook spokesperson gave TechCrunch the old line about "always exploring new ways to improve (audio and video) experience for people." But the mockups above show that the company has already done quite a bit of work on the new features. It's also notable that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently praised Clubhouse's product — and that was while appearing on Josh Constine's Clubhouse chat.
Clubhouse, which still only works on iOS devices, recently said it plans to launch an Android version of the app "in a couple of months." On iOS, Clubhouse has exceeded eight million downloads since launch as of February.
