'Through the roof' Christmas trees are the season's most festive prank

If you want a 20-foot tree, you get that 20-foot tree.

In true holiday spirit, a few festive pranksters are displaying "through the roof" Christmas trees, much to the confusion of Twitter and, we're sure, their neighbors. It's not a new trend -- the practical joke has been popping up for years -- but it's causing particular cheer this season.

To make your tree go through the roof, do as Twitter user @aidanswalt did: buy a tall fir, cut it in half, then display half the tree inside and half the tree on the roof -- creating the illusion that it's breaking through.

You're bound to fool someone, right? Or at least make them do a double take.
